The New York Yankees lost right-handed pitcher Adam Stone to the Chicago Cubs in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.

The Yankees originally signed Stone in 2022. He was undrafted and signed with the Yankees as a 20-year-old. He played one season of college baseball at Harvard, posting a 5.34 ERA in 10 games. He did not play his freshman year due to a torn UCL in his final year of high school. Then, in 2021, the Ivy League decided not to play due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

He made his Single-A debut with the Yankees in 2023. However, in 20 games, he had a 7.20 ERA. After the 2023 season, Stone dealt with a shoulder injury and also underwent Tommy John surgery. He did not play in another minor league game for the Yankees, but found himself pitching in the Arizona Fall League.

In seven Fall League games, he had an 11.81 ERA. He has not had much success since signing with the Yankees, but the Cubs saw something that led them to select him in the first round of the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

Stone has plenty left to prove, and if he can find some footing with the Cubs, he could be a great story. He has played in less than 40 games between Harvard, the Tampa Tarpons in Single-A and the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League.
