While Daniel Johnson is looking to showcase his talents with a new Major League Baseball team this winter, he’s decided to show local kids how he developed his skills with a free baseball camp on Saturday.
Johnson’s organization, “God, Family, Baseball,” is teaming with local legend CC Sabathia’s PitCChin Foundation and the Players Alliance to present the free camp at Vallejo High School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for players age 5 to 13. Campers should bring their own baseball equipment.
“I really wanted to do something for the community and collaborate with PitCChin and the Players Alliance to present something free to kids,” Johnson said. “We will break out the kids into six or seven groups and rotate them into different baseball stations. It’s a good feeling to be able to give back and be able to give kids some things that weren’t available to kids like me when I grew up. We just didn’t have the resources. So this is definitely a blessing.”
Pro baseball player and Vallejo native J.R. Davis and coach Tom Pangelinan will also be on hand. Campers will get a free T-shirt along with a photo with Johnson, who last played in 2025 with the San Francisco Giants and Baltimore Orioles.
Johnson, a Bethel High graduate, also has played with the Cleveland Guardians. Currently, he is a free agent.
“Nothing is official, and we’ve been having talks with my agent, but I’m looking for a new team after I was designated for assignment last year,” Johnson said. “The Yankees and Marlins have shown interest, but that’s it so far. It’s the third time I’ve been a free agent, so I’ve learned to control what you can control.”
Johnson is thrilled to have played in some of the top ballparks in the nation, including Oracle Park and Camden Yards.
“Playing in those ballparks makes me speechless,” Johnson said. “It’s truly a blessing.”
Saturday isn’t the first time Johnson has given back to the community. Earlier this year, he partnered “God, Family, Baseball” with Watch Me Grow, Inc. and the Grind Cafe to give out school supplies.
Johnson said the Saturday event is a register-only event. For more information visit www.instagram.com/p/DRufh__ERd8/.
