The Los Angeles Dodgers made headlines on Tuesday after signing top free agent closer Edwin Diaz to a record-setting three-year, $69 million contract, filling a major hole in their roster.
With a lot of time left in the postseason, questions abound about what other moves the Dodgers might make ahead of Spring Training.

Before the Dodgers brought in Diaz, manager Dave Roberts told reporters that he didn’t expect there to be any “big splash” moves to be made. With that notion out the window, the Dodgers could continue to make major moves in positions of need, specifically in the outfield.
However, a move they could also make that wouldn’t necessarily qualify as a “big splash” but would still result in a great deal of fanfare would be re-signing utility player Kiké Hernandez.

Hernandez, a fan favorite and a beloved member of the clubhouse, hit .203 in the regular season with 10 home runs after missing time with a left elbow injury. Hernandez, as he often does, improved in the postseason, averaging .250 with a home run and seven RBI. He made a game-saving double play in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 6 of the World Series to keep the Dodgers’ hopes of winning consecutive titles alive.
Dodgers Nation Doug McKain asked president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman Tuesday if the Dodgers were planning on re-signing the 34-year-old at the 2025 MLB Winter Meetings.
“We’ll never shut the door on Kiké. The value he provides on the field with his versatility, the value he provides in the clubhouse. He’s got to do what’s best, but we’ll see how that plays out,” Friedman told McKain.
I asked Andrew Friedman about the Dodgers interest in re-signing Kiké Hernandez:

Unlike last year, when the Dodgers brought back Hernandez on a one-year deal, Hernandez is recovering from a major offseason surgery, which is likely affecting the Dodgers willingness to sign him at this point in the offseason.
Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain predicted that Hernandez and the Dodgers will likely come to an agreement closer to spring training, so that the utility player can immediately go on the 60-day injured list to avoid taking up a roster spot while injured.
