EAST LANSING- The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) reported nearly 1.4 million spectators for its 2024-25 school year events, marking the third consecutive year of high attendance despite a slight decline from the previous year.

MHSAA events drew a total of 1,397,574 spectators, a 3.6 percent decrease from the 2023-24 school year, yet still the third-highest attendance in the past eight years. Baseball set a new record with 65,150 spectators, contributing significantly to the overall attendance figures.

In addition, baseball garnered 38,086 spectators at the District level and 7,517 at Quarterfinals, with every round showing an increase from the previous year.

Attendance at girls’ events reached 453,320 fans, a 3.9 percent decrease from the previous year but still the second-highest over the last eight years. Boys’ events saw 944,254 spectators.

Other sports also saw increased attendance, with ice hockey setting records at its Semifinals and Finals, boys soccer at the District level, and team wrestling at its Finals.

Football remained the most-attended MHSAA sport, drawing 361,139 spectators, with the highest Finals turnout since 2019-20. Boys basketball followed with 251,668 spectators, and girls basketball and volleyball also had significant attendance figures.

Track & field and softball posted their second-highest attendances on record after setting records in the previous school year.
