Wilyer Abreu

*This is a prediction*

The Boston Red Sox have a crowded outfield that they need to figure out how to fix this offseason. To do so, it has led to increased discussion that Jarren Duran could be traded before the 2026 MLB season gets underway, but there is an alternative player that could be traded by Boston instead, and that is Wilyer Abreu.

If the Red Sox go on to make Wilyer Abreu available in a trade, there is one team that makes sense to be a logical destination for him, and that is the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Boston Red Sox Trade Wilyer Abreu to the Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been linked to the Red Sox for a Jarren Duren trade, but instead, they could have just as much interest in trading for Wilyer Abreu as well.

While the Dodgers ended up winning the World Series in 2025, they still have holes to address on the team if they wish to further solidify their chances of accomplishing a three-peat run this season. One of the biggest spots they need to address is their left field spot.

Michael Conforto’s contract expired, making him a free agent this offseason. Conforto wasn’t necessarily great, either, as he recorded career lows in multiple categories, and didn’t provide much of a positive impact for the Dodgers. Los Angeles will now be looking for someone who can provide a better impact on offense and defense, and they can achieve this by trading for Wilyer Abreu.

Wilyer Abreu is coming off his best season in MLB so far as he hit a slash line of .247/.317/.469 with 22 home runs and 69 RBIs. Abreu is just going to be entering his fourth season at the professional level, and with already being a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, he has shown his fielding ability is just as great as his offensive ability.

With Wilyer Abreu showing he is just scratching the surface of his potential while already have shown he is a plus-level fielder and hitting well above league average, he would be the most ideal addition to the Dodgers lineup.
