The Boston Red Sox are reportedly still interested in re-signing Alex Bregman, but he figures to have other suitors as well. Could he sign elsewhere?

Bregman is one of the best remaining free agents, and many contenders could use a veteran like him in the lineup. Just Baseball’s Caleb Moody predicted Bregman would leave Boston, signing with the Detroit Tigers instead. The Tigers have been linked to Bregman since last offseason, and after a resurgent season, they may be more willing to pay him.

Bregman was named an All-Star for the first time since 2019 last season. He was having a great year, but was slightly derailed by a quad injury that cost him about a month. He was top ten in OPS before his injury in May, and saw his numbers decline upon his return. However, he still had a stellar season overall.

Bregman slashed .273/.360/.462 with 18 home runs in 114 games. His numbers were closer to his two All-Star seasons in Houston, which may instill more confidence in the Tigers to commit to him. Additionally, the Tigers may be looking to go all-in for next season.

Tarik Skubal is a free agent after the season, and if the Tigers are not going to trade him now, they need to maximize their chances of winning next year. Putting a team around Skubal for next year and making a run may be the path they choose. The Tigers made the American League Division Series last year and are returning all of their key players. Adding Bregman to the mix could lead to a deeper run.
