Chris Bassitt

*This is a prediction*

While the Milwaukee Brewers have been discussed as a team looking to trade either Freddy Peralta or Trevor Megill from their current pitching staff, one of the main goals for the Brewers this MLB offseason needs to be to also find ways to continue to add to their pitching rotation.

For Milwaukee to accomplish this, without having to break the bank for someone, they can look to sign Chris Bassitt in free agency.

Milwaukee Brewers Sign Chris Bassitt in MLB Free Agency

Chris Bassitt is coming off a three-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and entering the 2026 free agency period at 36 years old. Chris Bassitt just helped take the Blue Jays to the World Series, and finished up a 2025 season in which he posted a 3.96 ERA, 1.327 WHIP, and 4.01 FIP, with 166 strikeouts across playing in 170.1 innings.

Chris Bassitt is far removed from playing in his prime, but still has shown with his consistency over the past few seasons, including last season, that he is still a very capable pitcher that can provide an impact on a roster. Due to his age, he won’t be looking for a massive contract, which makes this even more ideal for the Brewers.

The Brewers have shown they have a type with their pitchers, and it’s ones that are crafty, and can vary their pitches with different speeds to confuse opponents. Chris Bassitt fits that mold, plus he is a quality starter that can go for long innings while also bringing the veteran experience the Brewers need to fill out their pitching depth.

One thing is for certain, the Brewers need to fill out their pitching depth more if they want to make it further in the postseason, especially if they go on to trade Freddy Peralta. In a cost-effective move that would also boost the production of the rotation, the Brewers must look to sign Chris Bassitt in free agency.
