For some odd reason, many have started to suggest that the New York Yankees could move on from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in MLB’s offseason.

Trading Chisholm doesn’t seem like the right idea, considering he’s coming off a season in which he hit 31 home runs. However, if the Yankees don’t plan to sign him long-term, it might make more sense to get something for him now rather than lose him for nothing a year from now.

Regardless, if the Yankees were to move him, they’d need to receive a trade package that makes sense for both sides. Chisholm should still have solid value around the league, but with a new contract looming after this season, things could get a bit tricky.

Searching for potential trade options, FanSided proposed an intriguing idea involving the Pittsburgh Pirates. The proposal would send Chisholm to Pittsburgh in exchange for Nick Yorke, Hunter Barco, and Thomas Harrington.

Pittsburgh Pirates receive:

“Nick Yorke was once considered a top prospect in the Red Sox pipeline before being dealt to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the ill-fated Quinn Priester trade. Still 23, Yorke put up muted MLB numbers last season — .583 OPS in 69 at-bats — but he looked much better with Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates’ player development system, especially for hitters, is a real crapshoot. Yorke could benefit immensely from a change of scenery. Plus, he’s still pre-arbitration, so the window of control is vast.

“The Yankees also address their flimsy rotation depth, as Gerrit Cole, Clarke Schmidt and Carlos Rodón will all begin 2026 on the IL. Hunter Barco, 24, is a southpaw with a legitimate three-pitch mix,” Christopher Kline wrote.

This type of deal would make a lot of sense for the Pirates.

Reports have indicated multiple times that they’re interested in adding impact hitters.

While Chisholm would be acquired via trade rather than free agency, he’d still be a significant addition to their lineup, which is the important part.
