The Philadelphia Phillies have made it known over the past few weeks that they’re interested in landing above-average players via free agency or trade.

While the Phillies might not be the best team in baseball as things currently stand, there’s reason to believe they can be in a perfect spot if they make the right moves throughout the remainder of the offseason.

Not only are the Phillies expected to be willing to move some of their top prospects, but several big-league players have also been floated in trade rumors, though none would qualify as elite trade assets.

Ultimately, Bryson Stott is an average to slightly above-average big-league player.

There’s value in that, but he’s not going to fetch some massive trade return on his own.

Despite that, FanSided believes there’s a scenario where the Phillies could move Stott to the Yankees in a deal for Jazz Chisholm Jr., which would represent a sizable upgrade on both sides.

“The Philadelphia Phillies can use Jazz Chisholm as a one-for-one upgrade over Bryson Stott at second base, or as a solution to their myriad outfield woes. Either way, the Phillies would benefit Chisholm’s blend of power, speed and defense. Another left-handed bat isn’t exactly the ideal sales pitch, but Stott is basically a platoon, so this is a meaningful short-term upgrade. Plus, the Phillies are on the short list of teams genuinely comfortable spending big in free agency — at least historically.

“Stott is under club control through 2027 at arbitration rates. He struggles immensely in lefty-on-lefty matchups, but raked consistently against righties in 2025 — especially late in the season. He’s only 28, so there’s still room for growth, in theory. He’s also an exceptional defender and a heck of a base-runner, so he can boost his value in the ancillary categories,” Christopher Kline wrote.

The idea of bringing Chisholm to Philadelphia would largely be about what he provides offensively. With the Yankees last season, he was arguably the best offensive second baseman in baseball outside of Ketel Marte.

Rumors have linked the Phillies to Marte, but Chisholm would be far from a bad consolation prize.
