*PREDICTION*
Veteran right-hander Walker Buehler is the classic case of how much just one year can change everything. Entering the 2024 MLB offseason, Bueheler was coming off a high of helping the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series.
But fast forward to this current offseason, Buehler is searching for a new team after struggling for much of the 2025 season. Buehler split his time between the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies, and he is now looking for the next chapter of his career.
Things went completely off the rails for the right-hander while in Boston, and he was eventually released from the team. Buehler made 23 appearances for the Red Sox, putting up an ERA of 5.45 over 112.1 innings of work.
But once he joined the Phillies, Buehler started to look like his old self, even on a small sample size. In 13.2 innings with the Phillies, he posted an ERA of 0.66; however, he didn’t get a chance to pitch for the team in the postseason.
Teams will need to do a cost-benefit evaluation of the right-hander, but he could be a solid low-risk move for any team. Buehler could look to sign another one-year, “prove-it” type of contract to help get his value up across the league.
But where this could be remains very open right now, and he may need to be patient to see how the rest of the market shakes out.

Walker Buehler Joins Texas Rangers on Prove-It Deal
With Buchler looking to land in the “right” place for the 2026 season, the Texas Rangers could be a solid option. Texas is looking for a way to improve the starting rotation this offseason, without completely breaking the bank as they try to cut salary.
Buehler could be the perfect low-risk, possibly high-reward type of move for this team, giving them a reliable arm. If the veteran could get back to his form, the Rangers could land an absolute steal here for the season.
Putting the right-hander into a rotation next to Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi, among others, could have Texas see some real depth. Bueher still has a lot to offer a team, and the Rangers could be a strong landing spot for him as they try to get back to the playoffs.
The veteran has experience pitching in Globe Life Field from his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2020 postseason, since many of the games were played there due to COVID. Buehler is also one of the more clutch players in baseball, and the Rangers could bank on this to help them if they were to get back to the postseason.
Overall, if the Rangers wanted to take a buy-low candidate for the starting rotation this winter, Buehler could be one of the better options. The right-hander wants to get back to dominating on the mound, and his upside could be far too strong for a team like Texas to pass on this offseason.
