TULIA, Texas (KVII) — The Texas Rangers said a Tulia man found dead in his home was murdered.

The victim was identified as 39-year-old Kavin Lcarl Powell, Sr.

At 7:50 a.m. Monday, the Tulia Police Department responded to 224 S Briscoe Ave. after receiving a 911 call.

Police said upon arrival, officers learned the owner of the home was deceased.

Powell’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

“The investigation has been turned over to the Texas Rangers,” said Tulia police. “This is an ongoing and active criminal investigation.”

A DPS spokesperson said the Texas Rangers will turn their findings over to the Swisher County District Attorney’s Office.
