Former Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano isn’t done just yet.

Despite being only 32 years old, Romano looked like his time in the MLB was coming to an end after posting a ghastly 8.23 ERA in 42.2 innings with the Philadelphia Phillies last season. The ugly performance resulted in a -1.7 WAR, or Wins Above Replacement, well above the expected relief pitcher WAR range of 0.0 to about 0.5.

As it turns out, however, Romano will be getting another opportunity in the bigs. On Tuesday, it was announced that he agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels.

Despite his struggles in 2025, Romano, who hails from Markham, Ontario, was once a very reliable piece in the Blue Jays bullpen. He racked up 36 saves in both 2022 and 2023 and was named an All-Star both years.

Injuries have played a big part in Romano’s decline, as he threw just 13.2 innings in what was his final season with the Blue Jays in 2024. The Blue Jays brass ultimately chose to part ways with Romano in favour of Jeff Hoffman after that 2024 season.

Romano will now head to an Angels team that finished 2025 with a 72-90 record. He’ll also be reuniting with some familiar faces, as two other former Blue Jays pitchers in Alek Manoah and Yusei Kikuchi are part of the roster.
