Three Houma-Thibodaux area high school baseball teams entered the this round of the LHSAA playoffs. Two of those three clinched spots in Sulphur, while the third may do so as early as this week.

Here’s how they fared:

Covenant Christian

The top-ranked Lions finally opened the Division IV select playoffs against No. 16 St. Martin’s Episcopal on Tuesday. CCA continued its undefeated season, beating the Saints 4-0 on Tuesday night. Next up is a Friday-night showdown against 8-seed St. Frederick, with the winner advancing to Sulphur.

The 7-seed Cardinals pulled off the upset in the Division II select quarterfinal series against second-ranked St. Charles. After a Thursday-night pitchers’ duel that EDW won 3-2, the Cardinals also took Friday’s Game 2, 5-1, to clinch a spot in Sulphur. Next up is a semifinal series with No. 6 Archbishop Hannan starting Thursday night.

Vandebilt Catholic

The No. 5 Terriers also pulled off a DII-select upset, this time against fourth-ranked Buckeye. VCHS took Game 1 on Thursday, 3-2, before run-ruling the Panthers with a 15-0 Game 2 win in only three innings. In Sulphur, Vandebilt Catholic will take on top-seeded Teurlings Catholic, with Game 1 on Thursday afternoon.
