Michele Kang on growth of women’s sports

Michele Kang walks the Women Sports Foundation’s red carpet and answers questions on her vision of women’s sports.

Sports Seriously

An inter-sport power couple is getting married.

Chicago Stars midfielder Julia Grosso and Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña have announced their engagement.

The pair posted photos on Instagram of a beachside proposal in St. Lucia.

Grosso and Peña have been together for roughly a year, with Peña marking the couple’s one-year anniversary in an Instagram post last month.

“In my WAG era,” Peña wrote, wearing Grosso’s Canada national team jersey while in the stands at a Chicago Stars game.

Both Grosso and Peña have already won some major honors during their careers.

Grosso, 25, scored the penalty that sealed Canada’s gold medal at the Olympics in 2021. Canada won its first women’s soccer gold by defeating Sweden in a shootout.

In July 2024, Grosso moved to Chicago after a successful spell in Italy with Juventus.

As a rookie in 2022, Peña helped the Astros win the World Series title and was named World Series MVP in the process.

The 28-year-old was named a MLB All-Star for the first time in his career in 2025.
