The Cleveland Guardians and reliever Shawn Armstrong have agreed to terms on a one year, $5.5 million deal, per reports.

If the name “Shawn Armstrong” sounds familiar to you, you might be a Rangers fan. Armstrong was picked up last offseason by Texas on a one year deal for $1.125 million. The righthander ended up being one of the best deals of the offseason, as he put up a 2.31 ERA in 74 innings over 71 appearances for Texas, with a 3.07 FIP and a 2.96 xERA.

Armstrong is returning to his original club, as the Guardians drafted him in the 18th round of the 2011 draft out of East Carolina University. He pitched in the bigs for Cleveland for parts of the 2015-17 seasons before being traded to Seattle after 2017 for international slot bonus money. Armstrong spent time with Seattle, Baltimore, Tampa, Miami, St. Louis and the Cubs before joining the Rangers for the 2025 season.
