Sung-mun Song has signed with the Padres on Friday, according to ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.
Song, mostly a third baseman, may have to move elsewhere in San Diego. But that’s something to worry about once spring gets here.
For now, the big deal is that the Padres landed a quality free agent, and their team will be better for it.

Who is Sung-mun Song?
Song is a 29-year old Korean infielder.
He throws right-handed but bats left-handed, and he’ll turn 30 in August.
He played for the Kiwoom Heroes in the Korea Baseball Organization. Song signed a six-year extension in August 2025, but he quickly asked to be posted after the season, and now he’s coming to MLB.

Sung-mun Song contract details
The details are still being awaited on Song’s contract.
The initial report from insider Francys Romero says the deal is for $13 million over three seasons.
Sung-mun Song stats
Song is a great hitter, and his game has reached another level the last two seasons.
In 2024, Song hit .340 with a .927 OPS that includes 29 doubles, four triples, 19 home runs, 104 RBI and 21 stolen bases.
Then in 2025, he was at .315 with a .917 OPS, 37 doubles, four triples, 26 homers, 90 RBI and 25 steals.
Song has stolen 46-of-48 bases successfully in the last two seasons.
