Fukuoka Softbank ‘s Ukyo Shuto became the 80th player in NPB history to achieve 200 career stolen base.
In the top of the first inning, Shuto reached base on Walk, and then made a bold move on the first pitch to stolen base his first base. In the top of the fifth inning, he reached base again with an infield hit to short stop, his 11th consecutive game since the start of the season. Despite being on guard, he easily stole second base on the sixth pitch, recording his 200th career stolen base.
Shuto has been stolen base base king three times in 2020, 2023, and 2024. He has a batting average of over 30% so far this season and is performing extremely well as the leadoff hitter. Expectations are high this season for him to be stolen base king for the third consecutive year.
In commemoration of this achievement, merchandise will also be available. Two limited edition designs will be available: one with a neon sign racing across the diamond, and another with a “Phantom Thief Shutou” design, depicting a phantom thief stealing the next base.
