There is likely a bit of wiggle room on what they can still spend on the season. Once you’re over the tax, might as well keep going, right? However, they may choose to spend that money a little later in the season as opposed to right now. That makes today’s question a bit easier: would you rather have the team spend now, not having a ton of money at the trade deadline, or should they keep a little powder dry for the end of July? Shouldn’t they make sure they have some money to improve once they let the season play out a bit? it’s probably all factoring into the equation a bit as they continue negotiating with different players.
