On Saturday, December 20, the Oregon Ducks defeated the James Madison Dukes 51-34 in the first round of the 2025-26 College Football Playoffs.  

In that game, graduate year linebacker Bryce Boettcher led the Ducks in total tackles with nine.  

He now has 113 tackles this college football season with the Oregon Ducks. He is the Ducks’ leader in tackles.  

Boettcher spoke with the media about the win over James Madison and what it means to advance to the next round of the College Football Playoffs.  

“I am happy to move on and keep advancing,” the Oregon linebacker said. “We are going to celebrate this win.” 

Boettcher and his Baseball Career with Oregon 

While playing football for the Ducks, Boettcher also played four years for the Oregon baseball team.  

His best season playing baseball with the Ducks came during his final year in 2024. He had a .276 batting average, 12 home runs, 35 RBI, and stole 15 bases.  

That season also included some big individual accolades for Boettcher. He was a part of the Pac-12 Conference All-Defensive Team and a member of the Santa Barbara Regional All-Tournament team.  

Boettcher was then selected in the 2024 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros. He was the 403rd overall pick in the 13th round.  

While playing baseball for Oregon, Boettcher was a part of four NCAA Tournament appearances, the 2023 Pac-12 Tournament title, and two appearances in NCAA Super Regionals.  

Up Next for Oregon Ducks Football 

With the win over James Madison, Oregon’s record moved to 12-1 overall on the season.  

Their next game will be in the quarterfinal round of the 2025-26 College Football Playoff on January 1. The Ducks will face off against the Texas Tech Raiders in the Orange Bowl.  

That game will be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.  

Kickoff for the matchup between Oregon and Texas Tech on January 1 will be at noon EST. The game can be watched on ESPN.
