Pittsburgh Pirates new acquisition Brandon Lowe discussed his trade from the Tampa Bay Rays during a Zoom call with reporters on Monday.

According to an article by Pirates beat reporter Alex Stumpf of MLB.com, the second baseman talked about his excitement to hit home runs over the right field wall at PNC Park and into the Allegheny River.

“Something about seeing a ball going flying into the river seems very, very exciting,” Lowe said, per Stumpf.

The two-time All-Star also discussed his place in Pittsburgh’s lineup alongside the likes of outfielders Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz.

“If you have to go Cruz-me-Reynolds, there’s no breaks,” Lowe said. “There’s no situation where a pitcher can take a pitch off and make a mistake and get away with it. Everybody in that section can hurt you, and I think that’s one of the things that truly helps a lineup together. If I don’t get the job done, runner on third base, I know Bryan’s going to come through and pick me up. It’s a comforting feeling, relaxing almost, where I don’t have to stress in my at-bat to get the job done. In turn, relaxes the body, things go better, chances are you get the job done yourself.”

Reynolds led the Pirates in runs scored (68), hits (144), doubles (38), RBIs (73) and total bases (236) during the 2025 campaign. Cruz paced Pittsburgh in home runs (20) and stolen bases (38).

Lowe bested most of those numbers last season as part of the Rays offense, finishing the year with 79 runs scored, 83 RBIs, 242 total bases and 31 home runs.
