The Los Angeles Angels reached a last minute settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit from the family of pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who died in a 2019 drug overdose, the family said in a statement.

The Friday settlement came midway through jury deliberations in California Superior Court, Orange County where jurors were set to decide whether the Major League Baseball team should be legally liable for the death, which occurred after the Angels’ communications director Eric Kay gave Skaggs a fentanyl-laced pill.

The Skaggs family said in a statement that the terms of the settlement are confidential.
