The Chicago White Sox have been looking to figure things out and move into the next phase of their rebuild. Unfortunately for fans, that typically includes moving on from players on the current roster, as they do not fit the projected timeline for the team to be competitive. While there are some players who could be on that list, there is one name that continuously finds himself in trade talks. Let’s take a closer look at one trade report that the Cincinnati Reds are interested in.
The Cincinnati Reds have reengaged with the Chicago White Sox for Luis Robert Jr

Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer and Bob Nightengale of USA Today are each reporting that the Reds and White Sox are reengaging in trade talks centered around center fielder Luis Robert Jr. This would be an intriguing addition for the Reds, who are looking for offensive improvement. However, the White Sox could get an intriguing prospect for the star outfielder in a return.
He has struggled to stay on the field in his career, as he has played at least 115 games in just one of his six seasons. However, that includes the 2020 COVID-shortened season, where he appeared in 56 games. Last season, Robert finished with a .661 OPS with 14 homers, 53 RBI, and 52 runs scored over 110 games. A new change of scenery and playing for a postseason spot could be what he needs to revitalize his career.
Robert is under contract for $20 million this season and also has a club option for the 2027 season that would cost the team $20 million if exercised. If the team declines the 2027 option, there is a $2 million buyout. Could the White Sox eat some money and continue to open the window with some young talent on the roster after trading Robert? It may not be the popular decision for the team, especially right after signing Munetaka Murakami, but it seemingly would be the best-case scenario for a team looking towards the future.
