Chaim Bloom knows there’s more than two teams in all of Major League Baseball…right?

All jokes aside, I have zero issue with the St. Louis Cardinals‘ new president of baseball operations making trades with his former employer. In fact, I’m all for it. Bloom’s job is to find the best deals possible, and if he feels good about the deals he is making with Boston, I trust his process.

The Cardinals will make moves with other teams; we know this. But after Bloom completed his second deal with Boston this offseason and the third trade the Cardinals have made with the Red Sox in the last six months, surely they are done making swaps for a while…right?

Well…

Believe it or not, the Cardinals and Red Sox continue to match up as trade partners. Would I call another deal with them this offseason likely? No, there are 28 other teams in baseball; you bet on the field every day. But man, the rumor mill continues to connect the two sides, even after the Willson Contreras trade, and I would not be surprised in the least to see Boston and St. Louis make another trade this offseason…or in the future.

I specifically have three different players that not only do I see the fit between the Cardinals and Red Sox for a trade, but there are legitimate reports and rumors connecting these deals as well. Again, the likelihood of each deal varies, and some depend on how the trade market and free agent pool continue to play out, but Craig Breslow may be trying to complete another deal with Bloom in the near future.

Don’t get too upset about this either. Yes, the Cardinals must consider offers from other teams; that is obvious, but Boston still has plenty of assets that could excite St. Louis this offseason.
