On Monday, we raised the question: “Why haven’t the Toronto Blue Jays signed Bo Bichette yet?”

It’s fairly self-explanatory: Do the Blue Jays actually want Bichette back, or are they playing the field and seeing if they can find something better?

And does Bichette actually want to be back? Or is he playing the field and seeing if he can find a better deal? Or is he disappointed at a perceived lack of respect for the Jays for not moving on him yet?

If both sides really wanted each other, the deal would already be done, wouldn’t it?

The other thing that is possible here – are the Blue Jays sensing that Bichette doesn’t have a huge market and they can afford to wait and hope to get Bichette at a cut rate? Could that cut rate help them also get Kyle Tucker this offseason?

Let’s take a look at the non-Toronto possibilities out there for Bichette:

Red Sox – All reports indicate that the Sox want Alex Bregman back, however, they also haven’t been able to come to a deal with him. It makes the most sense for Boston to bring back Bichette, but are they playing chicken with the Blue Jays and agent Scott Boras?

As long as Bichette is out there, there is a threat of signing him, which ramps up the pressure on Bregman and Boras. Is the same thing happening in Toronto? Is the threat of Bregman enough leverage to wait out Bichette?

Tigers – The Tigers have been linked to Bregman in consecutive offseasons, and he makes sense for them given they have an opening at third base. Bichette has indicated a willingness to play second, but we haven’t heard as much about third. Is that an option here?

Cubs – The Cubs have also been linked to Bregman, who they would play at third while moving Matt Shaw to second. Could Bichette fill in at second with Shaw staying at third? They certainly have the deep pockets to make something happen.

Jays could benefit from one more big bullpen move

Special 2025 season came at significant cost for Jays

Angels – Always a threat to go after a star, the Halos finally get Anthony Rendon’s money off the books this year. They are in need of talent almost everywhere, but an up-the-middle tandem of Bichette and Zach Neto would be fun.

Mariners – They don’t seem likely to spend on Bichette, and they reportedly really like Cole Young, but they do have a positional need after missing out on Jorge Polanco.

Pirates – They were in on both Josh Naylor and Kyle Schwarber and they are looking to spend money, but are they ready to spend at this level to help Paul Skenes?

One of the thing helping the Jays and hurting Bichette? Neither the Yankees or Mets seem to be involved, which means two less big-market suitors.
