Tarik Skubal has Detroit Tigers fans buzzing after his latest trip to Michigan during the 2025 MLB offseason. Skubal visited Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, and Ford Field for an exciting weekend of sports. However, the back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner left without an extension, and the Tigers have addressed his trip to Michigan.

Many Detroit fans speculated that Skubal’s trip to Michigan could indicate a possible contract extension, but Tigers general manager Jeff Greenberg shut down that narrative to the Detroit Free Press.

“No, I think [Tarik Skubal] just wanted to catch the Detroit sports scene,” Greenberg said to the Detroit Free Press. “He’s obviously a huge sports fan. He means so much to the community. It was cool to see the images of him. He caught a Michigan State basketball game, a Pistons game, a Wings game, and a Lions game. So credit to him for the endurance on that one. But yeah, big sports weekend in Detroit, and he wanted to catch some action.”

This isn’t the answer that Detroit fans wanted to hear, as Skubal could be traded by the organization this offseason. The Tigers ace is entering the final year of his deal, with his next contract potentially going beyond $400 million. Therefore, Detroit may want to maximize Skubal’s trade value now.

Hopefully, the Tigers can nail down an extension instead. After all, Skubal is arguably the face of Detroit sports, and it would be disappointing to see him walk after the 2026 MLB season.
