ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Pete Fairbanks, who racked up 75 saves for the Tampa Bay Rays over the last three seasons, has signed with the Miami Marlins, according to reports.

ESPN and The Athletic, among other outlets, report that the deal is for one year and $13 million.

The Rays had earlier declined an $11 million option for Fairbanks, 32, who spent seven seasons in a Rays uniform.

Fairbanks was acquired by the Rays from the Texas Rangers in 2019 and became one of the team’s most reliable relievers. That included six wins and a 2.70 ERA during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, when the Rays won the American League pennant.

He pitched in 61 games last season, notching 27 saves with a 2.83 ERA.

He joins a Marlins team that went 79-83 last season.
