The New York Yankees are reportedly interested in signing free agent superstar Kyle Tucker or slugger Cody Bellinger. Considering how expensive each would be, it’s safe to assume the Yankees could afford one, but not both stars.
Tucker is projected to sign for over $400 million while Bellinger is projected to sign for $168 million, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
Tommy Wild of Roundtable Sports predicted the Yankees would sign Bellinger to a new contract instead of Tucker this offseason.

“The New York Yankees must re-sign Cody Bellinger, not just because of his fit with the team and stadium, but because an offseason where multiple big-name free agents leave the Bronx for more lucrative deals would be a bad look for the front office and Hal Steinbrenner,” Wild wrote. “Even though Bellinger remains unsigned, the former MVP ending up back with the Yankees for the 2026 season feels like an inevitable move by the front office.”
Re-signing Bellinger is the best move the Yankees could make this winter. He’s a better defender than Tucker, and he’s expected to sign for half the price.
Bellinger was well-liked in the Bronx during his one year with the team. He’s the perfect complement to Aaron Judge in the middle of the Yankees’ lineup, and the front office needs to lock him up long term.
