The Miami Marlins and free-agent reliever Pete Fairbanks agreed on a one-year, $13 million contract, according to multiple reports.
The deal, which will be completed after a physical, includes a $1 million signing bonus and appearance-based incentives that could earn Fairbanks another $1 million. If he is traded, a $500,000 acquisition bonus is tied to the deal.
The one-year contract is the largest annual salary Miami has ever given to a relief pitcher.
Tampa Bay turned down Fairbanks’ $11 million option for 2026, paying him a $1 million buyout.
The 32-year-old Fairbanks spent the last six seasons with the Rays, saving 20 or more games in each of the last three seasons. Last season, Fairbanks made a career-high 61 appearances, pitching 60â…“ innings in 2025 and saving 27 games in 32 chances.
