Christmas is here, and it seems Santa, I mean SF Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey (we all know Buster is actually Santa) has forgotten some of the larger presents under the tree. Maybe they are still on their way…supply chain issues no doubt.

But as we wait for those larger gifts that are surely going to come, the least Posey and his elves, I mean executives, at the North Pole, sorry, front office, can do is get us some stocking stuffers to tide us over until New Year’s.

3 stocking stuffers SF Giants can add this Christmas

These additions would not be all that exciting, but they would be in keeping with the relatively minor moves the Giants have made this season with the biggest addition being starting pitcher Adrian Houser. It seems the more hopeful wish list may not come to pass, so maybe it is time for Giants fans to set their sights a little lower this offseason.

Hunter Harvey

The Giants are clearly trying to construct a low-cost bullpen with their recent additions which may not be the worst strategy. Free agent pitcher Hunter Harvey would fit that mold as he could be had on a cheap one-year deal.

He is coming off an injury-riddled 2025 campaign with the Kansas City Royals in which he had 12 scoreless outings but only pitched 10 and 2/3 innings on the year.

San Francisco has already added a bunch of relievers coming off injury this offseason so why not stuff another into the stocking?

Mitch Garver

The Giants added Andrew Susac’s little brother Daniel earlier this offseason, but they could still benefit from a veteran catcher or two in camp to compete for that backup spot behind Patrick Bailey.

Mitch Garver could be a potential option. The 34-year-old has a lot of pop in his bat even if he cannot hit for average, and as far as I am aware the Giants have never added a former Seattle Mariners catcher hoping he could be a bat-first complement behind Bailey. Surely if they did, it wasn’t a disaster or anything like that.

Tony Gonsolin

Giants fans will remember Tony Gonsolin from his long tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was an All-Star in 2022 but his last two seasons have been marred by injury.

He could be had for cheap and the Giants can see if he has anything left in the tank and maybe he could develop into a rotation option or they could transition him into the bullpen.

Santa has a self-imposed budget this offseason and his boss does not like big contracts for starting pitchers, so we may have to settle for these stocking stuffers this offseason.
