With the Arizona Diamondbacks likely losing ace Zac Gallen in free agency this winter, the front office has a lot of work to do to fix the starting rotation. The overall depth of the pitching staff isn’t where Arizona wants it to be right now, and this could see the team look to make some big moves.
*PREDICTION*
The Diamondbacks will be getting ace Corbin Burnes back from injury at some point this season, but the team can’t fully bank on him just yet. Arizona will need to see how Burnes recovers from his Tommy John surgery, so they can’t rely on him returning to full peak.
With this in mind, Arizona should be looking to add at least two more arms this offseason to help bolster the rotation going forward. But the approach to this will be fascinating since the Diamondbacks can either go down the free agent route or the trade front.

Freddy Peralta Traded Over to Arizona Diamondbacks
As the Diamondbacks look for ways to improve the starting rotation, the idea of the team trading for another arm has come about. Veteran right-hander Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers could be an interesting name for the team to consider, and he has been placed on the trade block of late.
Even with the Brewers seeing a lot of success last year, the team has consistently operated in a way where they trade star players when they get close to free agency. Milwaukee tends to look ahead to the next “big” thing, rather than jsut paying what it will take to keep the stars within the organization.
Peralta will be a free agent at the end of the 2026 season, and there have been all sorts of trade rumors around him. This is where a team like the Diamondbacks could look to strike, and Peralta could completely bolster the Arizona rotation going forward.
Over 33 starts for the Brewers this past season, the right-hander posted an ERA of 2.70, while striking out 204 batters over 176.2 innings of work. Milwaukee relied very heavily upon Peralta this past year, and he showed out, giving the Brewers a chance to potentially net a strong return in a trade.
Arizona could use the help in the starting rotation, and if they were to land him, it could give them one of the better units in baseball. Putting Peralta next to Burnes would offer the Diamondbacks a lethal one-two punch going forward.
The Diamondbacks haven’t been afraid to spend money to retain or sign stars in the past, and the team could give Peralta the type of deal that he is seeking in free agency. Overall, the Diamondbacks want to get back to the postsason, and improving the starting rotation seems to be one of the better ways to approach the offseason.
