A major reason for the pain the Toronto Blue Jays felt when they lost Game 7 of the World Series had to be the knowledge that it would be exceptionally difficult to return to that point.
There hasn’t been a repeat American League champion since the 2022 Houston Astros, but that’s just what the Blue Jays will attempt to become next year. And it won’t be easy, because teams like the Astros will be getting healthy and trying to rebound from underperforming seasons.
Speaking of the Astros, Houston definitely could use another infielder. Would it behoove them to take one of the players off the Blue Jays’ World Series roster as an advancement of their goals?

A FOX Sports piece published on Saturday suggested that the Astros should attempt to sign utility infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa for the upcoming season.
“The beauty of Kiner-Falefa is that if injuries present themselves in the infield (Correa has consistently missed time in his career due to injuries and Paredes missed two months last season due to a hamstring injury), he can slot into the vacated starting infield position,” the site’s uncredited author wrote.
“Otherwise, Kiner-Falefa, who started nine games at second base for the (Blue Jays) in the 2025 postseason and appeared in 15 of their 18 postseason games, would serve as a super utility player for the Astros, … and has a track record of playing three infield spots.”
Kiner-Falefa, whose season will unfortunately be remembered in large part for being thrown out at home plate as the potential winning run of the World Series after taking a remarkably small lead at third base, had a .631 OPS during the regular season for the Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates. But he’s had better offensive seasons before, and his bat doesn’t have to be a huge part of his value to a roster.
It seems unlikely that the Blue Jays would bring Kiner-Falefa back after his second Toronto stint went worse than the first, but it shouldn’t be ruled out completely. The Astros have used utility players well in the past, though, so the Blue Jays surely wouldn’t love seeing them land “IKF,” as he’s known.
