The Toronto Blue Jays have been very active this offseason, but seemingly still have moves to make. They are reportedly pursuing Kyle Tucker, and Bo Bichette is also still a free agent.
Bichette is one of the best free agents remaining, and the Blue Jays’ homegrown star has already noted his desire to stay with the Blue Jays. However, many experts believe that if the Blue Jays land Tucker, they will not be able to re-sign Bichette. It’s unclear if Bichette will wait around for Tucker to sign, as he figures to have plenty of suitors.
Among his suitors is one of the Toronto Blue Jays’ division rivals, the Boston Red Sox. According to The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier, Bichette is not only on the Red Sox’s radar, but he is one of their “primary targets.”

“With (Willson) Contreras in the fold, the Sox continue to pursue another infield bat,” Speier reported. “According to major league sources, the team’s primary targets remain fairly consistent: Free agent infielders Alex Bregman and Bo Bichette, as well as trade candidates Ketel Marte (Diamondbacks) and Isaac Paredes (Astros). Aside from Marte, who is a switch-hitter, all are righthanded. There are additional alternatives on both the trade and free agent markets, but to date, that group of five occupies the front-burner pursuits.”
Bichette headlines a talented group of targets for the Red Sox. However, similar to the Blue Jays situation, Bichette may not be the Red Sox’s overall top target. While the Blue Jays seem to have their hands in Tucker’s market, the Red Sox’s “Plan A” is retaining Bregman, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
The top of the free agent market is on hold as every team waits for the first big domino to fall. Bichette is one of the best hitters in baseball, and it is no surprise that the Red Sox want him.
