After suffering another sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies, your fightin’ Colorado Rockies will look to get back on the winning side of things as they play host to the visiting New York Yankees.

Tanner Gordon (0-1, 5.68 ERA) will take the mound for the Rox. Gordon, recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a move that saw Scott Alexander designated for assignment, has appeared in just one game thus far this season. That start saw him work into the seventh inning and allow seven runs (four earned) to the Detroit Tigers.

He’ll look to improve upon that outing with a productive appearance against the Yanks, a team that he’s yet to face in his young career.

That’s a tough assignment, of course, against a New York team that boasts one of the hottest offenses in baseball. That’s due in no small part to Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt, the heart of the order and two hitters that enter Friday with averages that look like they’re playing MLB The Show’s Career mode on easy.

It’s for that reason that Clarke Schmidt’s (1-1, 4.41 ERA) job is likely much easier than Gordon’s. Schmidt is making his seventh start of the year and has settled in recently, having not allowed more than three runs in any of his last four starts. Not many Rockies on the current squad have faced him, but those that have (Brenton Doyle, Tyler Freeman, Ryan McMahon, and Ezequiel Tovar) are a combined 0-for-9.

We’ll see if the lineup can muster up any kind of sustained attack against the Bronx Bombers this Friday night.
