  • December 31, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A new women’s professional sports team is coming to Kansas City. Their name is the KC Diamonds, and they are one of seven founding members of the Professional Softball League.

The Diamonds’ season is set to start in early June and culminate with the playoffs in early August. Teams will play a 39-game schedule and feature 20 players.

“We’re ready to get started,” said KC Diamonds catcher, Leah Boggs. “We want the season to be here.”

Kansas City local, Monica Abbott, is a two-time Olympic Silver Medalist in softball and played professionally for 14 years. She says the Diamonds’ announcement is a game-changer for softball in the metro.

“It means opportunity. It means dreams can come true, and it means pushing the game forward,” Abbott said at the announcement.

Boggs and pitcher Savanah Henley are the first two players to sign with the organization. They want to set an example for all young girls in Kansas City.

“To see them in the stands and know that we are paving a way for them, when they get to be our age, to be able to play the sport that we’re playing is just an awesome feeling.”

Dozens of young softball players from across the area were at Tuesday’s big event. Many of them received autographs and took pictures with the first two Diamonds’ players in team history.

“The turnout from the younger generation was so incredible,” Boggs told KCTV5. “That’s what it’s all about; them showing up and us also showing up for them.”

The Diamonds will play their home games at Legends Field.

“Facilities are such an important part of our game and what we have access to and our development,” Boggs said. “This is just a state-of-the-art facility.”

Tickets for the KC Diamonds’ inaugural season go on sale on February 1st. Their games will be broadcast on the All-Women’s Sports Network (AWSN).
