The Chicago Cubs were able to showcase their talents throughout 2025, finishing as one of the NL Wild Card teams with a 92-70 record and making the playoffs for the first time since the COVID-shortened season. There are a lot of changes as they are in the offseason and looking to build upon the 2025 season. Looking back, the Cubs were able to do a great job overall and exceed expectations. Let’s take a deeper dive into how one outlet believes the Cubbies did for the 2025 calendar year overall.

In an article written by Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, grading each MLB team, they gave the Cubs a solid ‘B’ grade for their 2025. Below is a snippet of the article discussing Chicago’s 2025:

“Though it ended in disappointment at the hands of a divisional rival, the Cubs had a solid season, making the playoffs for the first time since 2020. After losing more than a dozen players to free agency, though, their offseason has boiled down to Shota Imanaga accepting a $22.025 million qualifying offer and otherwise slowly rebuilding a gutted bullpen. They’ve yet to sign an ace, and time is running out to do so.”

Despite not landing a significant free agent in this free agency class, the Cubs are making improvements with their bullpen so far. While not many significant free agent signings have been made this offseason at this time, there are still moves they can make to improve the roster even further. The team was able to make the NLDS and showed signs of taking that next step. With the team now getting that extra attention and being in the sweepstakes for some major names to join the roster, they will be an intriguing team to watch heading into 2026.
