Now that we’re officially into 2026, it’s time to start really taking stock of where the Seattle Mariners are at with their roster.
With just six weeks until spring training, there is undoubtedly an urgency for the M’s to fill out the roster as they look to get back to the American League Championship Series in the year ahead.

Seattle has been connected to second basemen like Ketel Marte and Brendan Donovan on the trade market, and they’ve been connected to a reunion with Eugenio Suarez, but the bullpen shouldn’t be ignored, either.
You can never have enough pitching and the Mariners seem to be one arm short of having a really, really dynamic bullpen to work with.
So let’s take a look at where things are at. Remember, you need eight bullpen arms.
Andres Munoz – A two-time All-Star, Munoz will once again be penciled in as the M’s closer. About to turn 27 years old, he’s become one of the premier relievers in the game, and he went 3-3 with a 1.73 ERA in 2025. He punched out 83 batters in 62.1 innings.

Matt Brash – One of the best set-up men in baseball, Brash is still 27 years old as well. Armed with one of the best sliders in the sport, he went 1-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 53 games. He should be even better in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery.
Gabe Speier – A true workhorse in 2025, Speier made 76 regular season appearances, plus seven more in the playoffs. About to turn 31, he went 4-3 with a 2.61 ERA in 62.0 innings, striking out 82.
Eduard Bazardo – A breakout and standout in 2025, Bazardo went 5-0 with a 2.52 ERA, appearing in 73 games. He struck out 82 in 78.2 innings and was always willing to take the ball. He’ll play another big role in leverage spots.
Jose Ferrer – Just acquired from the Washington Nationals in a trade, Ferrer has a fastball that reaches the upper-90s and a dynamic sinker and a changeup. He’ll help take the heat off Speier and give manager Dan Wilson more options.

Carlos Vargas – Appearing in 70 games in 2025, Vargas’s high usage frustrated some fans, but he was very effective in spots. He went 5-5 with a 3.97 ERA, but he doesn’t miss many bats. He only struck out 54 in 77.0 innings, despite a fastball that reaches the upper-90s.
He’s out of options, so he figures to stick on the roster once again.

Jackson Kowar

Notes: Hancock transitioned to a reliever at the end of 2025, but he will still enter camp as a starter. If each of the five starters stay healthy, he could remain in Triple-A as starter depth, but he could potentially transition back to a ‘pen role. Furthermore, Kowar and Legumina are both out of options, so they figure to get real chances to stick as well, or they risk having to go through waivers.
Brash, Munoz and Bazardo are all expected to compete in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, so there should be plenty of opportunities for some of these other relievers to show off their stuff.
