The Seattle Mariners swung a few big trades at the trade deadline last season to acquire Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suárez. Naylor was quickly re-signed by Seattle early in the offseason, but it seems like Suárez is headed to a new team in the coming weeks.
It’s hard to predict where Suárez is going to sign because he would fit with a lot of different teams this winter, especially considering he’s expected to land a short-term deal.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter predicted Suárez would land with the Pittsburgh Pirates in free agency this winter.

“With Brandon Lowe and Jake Mangum acquired via trade and Ryan O’Hearn signed to a two-year, $29 million deal, the Pirates offense has already undergone a much-needed face lift, but they still have a ways to go to be an above-average unit,” Reuter wrote. “There is no clear fit for veteran slugger Eugenio Suárez right now, and his market is at least partially tethered to Alex Bregman’s decision, but he would be a great addition on a similar short-term deal to the one O’Hearn signed. That would allow Jared Triolo to serve as the utility infielder.”
The Pirates have made a few shocking moves this winter, but they could take one more big shot to land one of the best sluggers on the market.
Slotting Suárez in the middle of the Pirates’ lineup would improve their offense by a lot. If Suárez is willing to sign a one or two year deal, the Pirates could fit perfectly as the top suitor.
