Looks like the Pirates will miss out on Japanese third baseman Kazuma Okamoto, as he’s reportedly in agreement on a contract with the Blue Jays, per Jeff Passan.
Okamoto could have provided the Pirates with a rare power-hitting third baseman, something they’ve lacked since Pedro Alvarez manned the position over a decade ago.
Okamoto, 29, is a .277 hitter with 248 career home runs in 1,074 games over 11 seasons with the Yomiuri Giants in Nippon Professional Baseball. He slashed .327/.416/.598 with a 1.014 OPS and 15 homers in 69 games this past season.
