The MLB Network is celebrating “Shohei Day” — a full day’s worth of programming in honor of superstar Los Angeles Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani — on Jan. 7 beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
The network-wide dedication, which will spotlight the dynamic designated hitter/pitcher’s greatest outings, takes place on Wednesday in honor of his No. 17 jersey, which he has worn since breaking into the Majors in 2018. The celebratory event will also feature some of Ohtani’s most memorable games, special studio segments, guest appearances and a two-hour “Best of Shohei” highlight across MLB Network’s shows and social media platforms (teaser above).
One of the most impactful talents the sport has ever seen, Ohtani has redefined what is possible on the diamond, capturing fans’ attention worldwide as a dominant force on the mound and at the plate. Ohtani is coming off of his second World Series championship win with the Dodgers, and is a four-time unanimous MVP Award winner.
Anchoring the programming day are two replays of Ohtani’s greatest hits, including September 19, 2024 (when he became the first player in Major League history to join the 50/50 Club) and Game 4 of the 2025 National League Championship Series (during which Ohtani delivered 10 strikeouts while going 3-for-3 with three home runs).
Throughout the day, MLB Network’s Hot Stove and MLB Tonight will see Ohtani-focused analysis and storytelling including “Greg’s List,” where host Greg Amsinger will spotlight the athlete’s greatest career moments, and Chris Young will provide an in-depth breakdown examining his evolution into a generational talent.
The celebration culminates with “Best of Shohei,” an original two-hour special airing at 7 p.m. ET.
