Detroit Tigers trade outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy to Rays

  • January 7, 2026

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers have traded outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy to the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Tigers announced the trade Tuesday morning, Jan. 6, 2026, on social media. Detroit received cash considerations in return.

Malloy had been removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Kyle Finnegan, who the Tigers re-signed in free agency last month.

Malloy, who will turn 26 in February, played in 52 games for the Tigers last season, slashing .221/.346/.308 with six doubles, one homer, 20 walks, and 32 strikeouts.

He has a career .884 OPS in the minor leagues, including a .416 on-base percentage and 61 homers.

The Tigers acquired Malloy in December 2022 as the centerpiece of the Joe Jimenez trade.
