Much of the Guardians‘ activity this winter has centered around the bullpen construction. That trend continued with a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Guardians dealt left-handed reliever Justin Bruihl to the St. Louis Cardinals for cash considerations Jan. 6. This comes after Cleveland acquired Bruihl for cash considerations from the Toronto Blue Jays in December.
Bruihl, who was designated for assignment Dec. 20, effectively felt the consequences of the Guardians’ revolving acquisitions within the bullpen, which recently include the signings of Shawn Armstrong, Pedro Avila and Codi Heuer, the last two to minor league deals. The Avila signing was made official Jan. 5.
Bruihl, 28, posted a 5.27 ERA in 13 2/3 innings with the Blue Jays in 2025.
