Royals to host three ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ games during 2026 season

  • January 10, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Primetime baseball returns to Kansas City this year.

With Major League Baseball moving on from ESPN as its broadcasting partner and NBC Sports taking over the mantle of ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ broadcaster, the Royals are set to appear on multiple occasions on the standalone broadcast this season.

In an announcement shared by NBC Sports’ Pressbox about the network’s return to the MLB with NBC and Peacock, the Royals are on the initial 2026 ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ schedule three times.

The three appearances for the Royals come on April 26 against the Los Angeles Angels, May 10 against the Detroit Tigers and Sept. 6 against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Each of those three Royals games will be broadcast on Peacock begin at 6 p.m. CT. NBC Sports said “most Peacock exclusive games will be simulcast on NBC Sports Network.”

The Royals haven’t appeared on a ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ broadcast since 2016, when the organization was the defending World Series champions. That year, the Royals opened the season with a game against the Mets and also played a game in Boston on Aug. 28, 2016.

Twice in recent years, the Royals have played another game on a Sunday night, but both were Game 2s of a doubleheader, not a nationally televised broadcast.

NBC Sports also announced plans for ‘Star-Spangled Sunday’ on July 5, with every MLB game being presented nationally. That day, the Royals will host the Philadelphia Phillies at 2 p.m. CT.
