The Edward Cabrera trade by the Chicago Cubs sent shockwaves through the NL Central, and now all the teams in the division need to make counter moves of their own. The Cincinnati Reds are no different and need to find a move to counter Chicago’s.

For the Reds, getting more offense is what they need. Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes the Reds should call up the New York Yankees and make a deal for All-Star and Silver Slugger Jazz Chisholm Jr.

“The Cincinnati Reds were willing to pay Kyle Schwarber in an effort to sell tickets. I wonder if the front office (and ownership) could be persuaded to make a similar exception for Jazz Chisholm Jr., who’d provide max entertainment value in the middle infield opposite Elly De La Cruz. There is some obvious risk to this trade, with Chisholm more likely than not a one-year rental. But it’s a risk worth taking for a Reds team on the precipice of contention,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Chisholm slashed .242/.332/.481/.813 with 15 doubles, 31 home runs, 80 RBI, and 31 stolen bases in 130 games played. He would be an instant upgrade over Matt McLain at second base and would form one of the most exciting infield duos in the MLB with Elly De La Cruz.
Plus, Chisholm just signed a one-year, $10.2 million deal with the New York Yankees. So, the Reds can get him for cheap, and either flip him at the deadline if it doesn’t work out, or offer him an extension if it does.

If the Red really want to contend next year, this is the move to make. Hopefully, they realize this and start dialing New York’s number.
