Tennessee baseball plummeted in the rankings after dropping a third straight series.
The Vols are ranked No. 12 in the USA TODAY coaches poll after losing to Auburn at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. UT was ranked No. 1 in the nation for six weeks this season, but has been sliding since. It has lost four of five weekend series and three straight at home.
UT (37-11, 13-11 SEC) hosts No. 10 Vanderbilt (34-14, 14-10) in its next series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols had won 12 straight SEC prior to losing to Texas A&M, starting a rough April. They won at Ole Miss before the back-to-back series losses to Kentucky and LSU.
Tennessee won its first 20 games of the season to string together a 22-game winning streak dating back to last season’s College World Series. The Vols won the final two games in Omaha to clinch the program’s first national title.
It lost back-to-back one-run games to ETSU and Alabama in mid-March before winning eight straight.
