Baseball season is just around the corner, and it looks like the Big 12 should have a nice group of teams in 2026. Recently, D1 Baseball dropped its Preseason Top 25 poll, and two teams from the league earned spots.
The two teams are No. 10 TCU and No. 22 Arizona, each of which is coming off an impressive season from one year ago.
In 2025, TCU entered the year with massive expectations and somewhat lived up to the hype. They finished third in the Big 12 Conference and advanced to the NCAA Baseball Tournament as a participant in the Corvallis Regional. Unfortunately, that’s where their season ended against Oregon State, but it wasn’t without flashes and promise for a successful and bright future. Offensive woes kept them from hitting their full potential, but if anyone can right the ship, it’s Kirk Saarloos.
As for Arizona, 2025 was a fantastic year that saw them advance to the College World Series in Omaha. They also won the Big 12 Championship over TCU in dramatic fashion. They took down the Horned Frogs 2-1 in 10 innings at Globe Life Field, marking their first Big 12 title, which included a game-tying home run in the ninth before sealing the deal in the 10th. They took care of business in the Chapel Hill Super Regional, which punched their ticket to the CWS. Their season ended in disappointment, too, with a late-season collapse against Louisville.
While it could be a tall task for the pair to repeat successful seasons in back-to-back years, according to those at D1 Baseball, the possibility is right there for the taking. Should TCU, Arizona, or anyone else go on a run this year, you’ll find loads of coverage of Big 12 Baseball starting soon at Heartland College Sports!
