The New York Yankees have strengthened their pitching depth, agreeing to acquire left-hander Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins in exchange for four minor leaguers, according to YES Network’s Jack Curry. The deal has not yet been announced by either club.

Miami is expected to receive outfielders Brendan Jones and Dillon Lewis, along with infielders Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus. Jones and Lewis both rank among the Yankees’ Top 20 prospects. per MLB Pipeline.

Weathers, 26, adds much-needed rotation insurance for a Yankees staff already dealing with injuries. Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, and Clarke Schmidt are all slated to begin the season on the injured list, making depth a priority as New York looks to navigate the early months of the schedule. Weathers also carries roster flexibility, with one minor league option remaining.

The lefty was originally selected in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres and was dealt to Miami in 2023. Over parts of four major league seasons, he owns a 4.93 ERA with 235 strikeouts across 281 innings. While durability has been a concern — he has never topped 18 starts in a season and was limited to eight starts last year due to multiple injuries — his recent performance with Miami showed promise, as he posted a 3.74 ERA over 24 starts during the past two seasons.

Weathers is the son of former Yankees reliever David Weathers and remains under team control for three more years.
