Samurai Japan added more names to its roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic on Friday, with former Yomiuri Giants and Baltimore Orioles pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano returning to the tournament for the first time since starting for Japan in the semifinals in 2017.
Sugano is the only player with MLB experience among the 11 new additions who will join Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani and the eight players who were initially named to the team in late December.
The right-hander moved to MLB for the 2025 season after a successful career with the Giants in Japan. He was 10-10 with a 4.64 ERA for the Orioles in his first season and is currently a free agent.
