Matt Shaw
After months of speculation as to where Alex Bregman could end up signing in MLB free agency, that came to an end as he ended up signing with the Chicago Cubs. While this solved where Bregman signed, it created another question that needs to be answered this offseason.

*Prediction*

This move immediately slots Bregman in as the starter for the Cubs, but creates questions surrounding the future of Matt Shaw. With plenty of teams still needing third base help, the Cubs could end up looking to now trade Shaw.

If this is the case, a team that makes sense to trade for Matt Shaw is the Los Angeles Angels.

Chicago Cubs Trade Matt Shaw to the Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels continue to find themselves in a weird spot as a team. They have Mike Trout and have vocalized that they still view themselves as contenders, but their lack of moves speaks otherwise. The Angels need more talent, and they also need to figure out what they are going to do at third base after they released Anthony Rendon.

With Chicago signing Alex Bregman it creates for the ideal trade scenario for the Cubs to trade Matt Shaw to the Angels.

Matt Shaw is coming off just his first season at the professional level, and during that period he ended up producing a slash line of .226/.295/.394 slash with 13 home runs, and 44 runs batted in. The offensive upside was flashed, and an even more encouraging sign was his defensive ability improved as well as the season progressed.

By trading for Matt Shaw, the Angels would get a long-term answer at their third base position with someone who flashed their potential to become an impactful player at the MLB level. With Shaw being just 24 years old, he has plenty of years left to play, providing stability for the future, as well as a player that can help provide a boost in the lineup that the Angels need this season.
