Former Pirates star Dave Giusti, who won a World Series and made the MLB All-Star game during his time in Pittsburgh, has died. He was 86 years old.
Giusti spent 15 seasons playing Major League Baseball, with seven of those coming with the Pirates. He helped Pittsburgh to a World Series title in 1971.

Giusti led the National League in saves with 30 that season as the Pirates beat the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series. He also earned MLB All-Star honors in 1973 when he was 9-2 with a 2.37 ERA.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Pirates pitcher Dave Giusti,“ The Pirates posted on X. ”Dave spent seven of his 15 big league seasons with the Pirates and was an important member of the 1971 World Championship team as he led the NL in saves that year with 30.
“After his playing career, Dave made his home in Pittsburgh and remained an active member of the community and the Pirates alumni group. We extend our sincerest condolences to the Giusti family.”
In addition to Pittsburgh, Dave Giusti also played for the Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics and Chicago Cubs during his MLB career.

He split time as a starter and reliever, appearing in 668 games and making 133 starts.
Giusti finished his career with exactly 100 wins, going 100-93 with a 3.60 ERA across his 15 MLB seasons. He struck out 1,103 batters in 1,716 2/3 innings pitched.
