Hillsborough College trustees approve memo for potential Tampa Bay Rays stadium

  • January 21, 2026

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Trustees for Hillsborough College passed a non-binding memo laying the groundwork for a new stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays on their campus.

The Rays stadium was destroyed by Hurricane Milton. The proposal would redevelop 113 acres of campus into a new stadium, hotels and housing.

Hillsborough College will retain some of the property for academic facilities.

Governor Ron DeSantis said he supports the potential partnership.

“We’re supportive of them pursuing that partnership because I think it could be good for them,” DeSantis said. “I think it could be good for the state, but I definitely think it could be really good for this region, but particularly that part of the region.”
